One of IPBES’s core functions is to prepare status reports on biodiversity and ecosystem services. These reports are intended to help decision-makers make the right policy decisions at both the global and local levels.
What is a consensus report?
A consensus report consists of two parts—a detailed background report of several hundred pages and a summary of about 30 pages aimed at decision-makers. All topics and themes relate to biodiversity and ecosystem services.
The preparation of a consensus report is initiated based on direct requests from member states and is approved by all governments prior to publication. Once the reports are approved, it is up to the member countries’ governments to implement the findings in national policies—with support from, among others, IPBES in Denmark.
