IPBES Authors Sought for New Report on Biodiversity and Business

The report is expected to be published in 2025. IPBES has just sent out invitations to potential authors. We hereby encourage experts and scholars from Danish institutions and/or companies to apply. The report will consist of six chapters. These will include chapters on how private companies depend on and influence biodiversity, methods and indicators for measuring this, as well as the options available to companies and society for promoting positive biodiversity activities and outcomes.

IPBES generally considers the private sector and financial institutions to be of great importance in reversing the biodiversity crisis. Previous IPBES reports have concluded that economic growth currently remains linked to the biodiversity crisis—that is, it has a negative impact. The upcoming report on biodiversity and private enterprises is a methodological report and is expected to have a major impact on how the private and financial sectors will contribute to addressing the biodiversity crisis in the future. With the latest initiatives from the EU, the involvement of the private sector in solving the biodiversity crisis is becoming increasingly mandatory.

IPBES is seeking a wide range of experts. Here is the information from the original job posting:

IPBES is seeking experts and practitioners with expertise in the impacts of business on biodiversity and nature’s contributions to people, as well as business dependencies on these factors, from all relevant business and financial sectors (both formal and informal), including but not limited to forestry, agriculture and food systems, marine and freshwater fisheries and other uses of wild species, water resources, recreation and tourism, pharmaceuticals, energy, infrastructure, and mining. Experts are sought from a variety of backgrounds, including academia, business and industry, government, and civil society, and from a variety of disciplines, including accounting, climatology, ecology, economics, finance, gender studies, hydrology, law, materials design and engineering, public health, risk assessment, and trade.”
